Devyn Dahozy Earns Athlete of the Week Honors After Big Weekend for Bloomfield Bobcats Softball

Junior third baseman Devyn Dahozy continues to emerge as one of the most improved players for the Bloomfield Bobcats, and after a huge weekend at the plate in a dominant doubleheader sweep over Albuquerque Academy Chargers, she has been named The Graphic Designer Athlete of the Week.
Bloomfield exploded offensively in both games, defeating Albuquerque Academy 29-8 and 20-4, and Dahozy played a major role in both victories.
In the two-game sweep, Dahozy consistently delivered key hits and run production. In one game she went 2-for-3 with four RBIs, including a double and a home run, while also scoring once. In the second game she again went 2-for-3, drove in five runs, added another double and another home run, and crossed the plate twice. Across the doubleheader, she totaled four hits, nine RBIs, two doubles, and two home runs, becoming one of Bloomfield’s biggest offensive weapons of the weekend.
Coach Jose Santistevan says Dahozy’s offensive breakout is the result of steady development that has built all season long.
“Devyn’s our third baseman, and this is her first year on varsity,” Santistevan said. “She’s so coachable. She’s become one of those kids that listens and just does what we ask of her.”
What makes her season especially impressive is that she did not even begin the year as a starter.
“She worked herself into the lineup with her bat,” Santistevan said. “Her bat is the reason she got in the lineup, and she’s the reason we can’t take her back out.”
That improvement has shown clearly as she has climbed Bloomfield’s batting order, moving from the lower half of the lineup into a key middle-order role.
“She started seven or eight, and now she’s up to five,” Santistevan said. “She deserves that spot the way she’s been hitting lately.”
Santistevan says her swing has changed dramatically since he arrived at Bloomfield.
“Her swing has gotten so much better,” he said. “When she hits the ball, it’s going to go a long way.”
Defensively, Dahozy has also made major strides at third base. Early in the season she battled nerves and rushed plays, but that has changed as her confidence has grown.
“She had kind of the yips to start the year,” Santistevan explained. “She just wanted to go as fast as she could. Once she got over that, she’s been great at third base.”
That confidence now carries over to every area of her game.
“She’s seeing now that hitting the ball is not the hardest thing you’re ever going to do in your life,” Santistevan said. “She’s settled down, and her maturity level is growing game by game.”
Off the field, Dahozy continues to stand out academically as well, carrying around a 3.5 GPA while balancing the demands of varsity softball.
“She’s a good student-athlete,” Santistevan said. “She takes the books really seriously.”
Her teammates also benefit from her positive presence.
“She’s there for everybody and wants to do good for her teammates,” Santistevan added.
With her bat heating up, her defense improving, and confidence growing each week, Devyn Dahozy is becoming a major part of Bloomfield’s late-season momentum — and this weekend proved just how dangerous she can be when everything clicks
