Navajo Prep Enters State Tournament With Championship Pedigree

Interview with Coach Rainy Crisp

Rainy Crisp Chasing Sixth Title, Third Straight for Lady Eagles

For the Navajo Preparatory School Eagles, March is familiar territory.

The Lady Eagles enter the Class 3A State Tournament as the No. 1 seed — and with it comes expectation. Navajo Prep isn’t just chasing another win. They’re chasing history.

Head coach Rainy Crisp is pursuing her sixth state championship as a head coach and a chance to lead the Lady Eagles to a third consecutive state title.

That kind of sustained success doesn’t happen by accident.

Built on Standards

Crisp has established a culture at Navajo Prep that demands discipline, preparation, and relentless effort. Year after year, the Eagles have been one of the most consistent programs in New Mexico.

This season has been no different.

Navajo Prep has played with confidence, depth, and defensive intensity — hallmarks of Crisp’s teams. Their ability to control tempo and share the basketball has made them difficult to contain.

But even with championships in the trophy case, Crisp knows nothing carries over into March.

“Every year is different,” she has emphasized throughout the season. “You have to earn it again.”

Chasing History

Winning one state title is special.
Winning back-to-back is rare.
Winning three in a row places a team in a different conversation entirely.

For Crisp, a sixth championship would further cement her legacy as one of the most accomplished coaches in New Mexico girls basketball history. For her players, it’s an opportunity to become part of something lasting.

The pressure of being the top seed and defending champion comes with the territory. But Navajo Prep has embraced the target all season long.

Focused on the Present

Despite the accolades and historical stakes, the message inside the gym remains simple: take it one game at a time.

Tournament basketball doesn’t reward past success — it rewards execution in the moment.

For the Lady Eagles, that means defending with intensity, playing unselfish offense, and staying composed when momentum swings.

The path won’t be easy. It never is in March.

But Navajo Prep enters once again with confidence, experience, and belief.

Coach Rainy Crisp is chasing title number six.

The Lady Eagles are chasing three in a row.

And the road to The Pit begins now.
