Senior Elias Johnson from Bloomfield High School has been named the Presbyterian Medical Services Athlete of the Week, a recognition well-deserved for his remarkable athletic achievements and leadership. Johnson boasts an impressive 17-0 wrestling record this season wrestling at 139 lbs., a testament to his relentless hard work, determination, and passion for the sport.
This past weekend, Johnson competed in the intense Cleveland Conflict, one of the largest wrestling tournaments in the region, held at Cleveland High School. The event featured over 70 high school teams from New Mexico, Colorado, Texas, Arizona, and even a team from California. Johnson dominated his third-seed opponent with a decisive 13-6 victory. In the semi-finals, he showcased his incredible skill and tenacity by defeating Jonathan Romero, the top-seeded wrestler from Volcano Vista, with a stunning fall. His outstanding performance throughout the tournament earned him the prestigious Outstanding Wrestler Award for the entire boys’ division—an honor that reflects his unwavering commitment to excellence.
Beyond his impressive achievements on the mat, Johnson exemplifies the core values of Bloomfield wrestling through his dedication to his team and rigorous training. He is not only a remarkable athlete but also an inspiring mentor to younger wrestlers. Johnson devotes his time to coaching and guiding youth athletes, ensuring the next generation has the tools and support needed to succeed.
In addition to his wrestling accolades, Johnson is a two-sport athlete who played a significant role in helping the Bobcat Football team secure a State Football Title in November 2025 as an outside linebacker.
Bloomfield Head Wrestling Coach Jason Luster expressed his admiration for Johnson, stating, “I couldn’t be prouder of Elias. It’s truly an honor to witness his growth, both as a wrestler and as a leader. Being part of his journey is a privilege, and I am confident he will continue to inspire and achieve greatness both on and off the mat.”
