Presbyterian Medical Services Athlete of the Week: Bailey Clarence
This week’s Presbyterian Medical Services Athlete of the Week is senior Bailey Clarence of the Lady Aztec Tigers basketball team. A standout on the court and in the classroom, Bailey exemplifies what it means to be a leader and student-athlete.
Bailey has been a force for the Lady Tigers, averaging 7.2 points per game (ppg), 7.2 rebounds per game (rpg), and 1.3 blocks per game (bpg) this season. Her outstanding performance earned her All-Tournament honors at the prestigious Rumble in the Jungle tournament, hosted by Aztec High School.
During the tournament, Bailey was instrumental in guiding the Lady Tigers to the championship game. She scored 18, 13, and 9 points in consecutive games while pulling down 7, 9, and 5 rebounds in each contest. Her scoring ability, rebounding strength, and defensive presence were unmatched, as she tallied a tournament-high 40 points and led all scorers. Over the course of the season, she has amassed an impressive 65 rebounds in just 9 games.
Lady Tigers head coach Bill McLaughlin praised Bailey’s growth, stating, “Bailey has developed into a natural leader while showing vast improvement on both sides of the ball.”
Off the court, Bailey continues to shine academically. With a 4.0+ GPA, she ranks among the top ten in her class, demonstrating her commitment to excellence in all areas.
Although the Lady Tigers came up short in the championship game of the Rumble in the Jungle, Bailey’s leadership, determination, and skill were critical to their success throughout the tournament. Her exceptional scoring and rebounding ensured her team remained competitive, cementing her as one of the team’s key players.
