
Kirtland Central Broncos Secure 2-0 Win against Pojoaque Elks
In a highly anticipated match on their home field, the Kirtland Central Broncos clashed with the formidable Pojoaque Elks in a contest that turned out to be a hard-fought battle of skill and determination.
The first half of the game saw both teams locked in a relentless struggle, with neither side yielding an inch. The score remained deadlocked at 0-0, a testament to the resolute defense and gritty play on the field.
First-year Coach Martinez, at the helm of Kirtland Central, recognized the need for a change in strategy as the second half got underway. He urged his team to press harder, applying increased pressure on the Elks’ defense.
Coach Martinez’s tactical adjustment paid dividends. In the second half, the Broncos emerged with renewed intensity, launching a relentless assault on the Pojoaque Elks’ goal. The hero of the day for the Broncos was none other than the talented sophomore, #3 Angel Acosta. With remarkable skill and precision, Acosta managed to find the back of the net not once, but twice, placing the ball securely within the confines of the elusive rectangle.
Kirtland Central surged ahead, claiming a vital 2-0 lead that they would safeguard until the final whistle. Coach Martinez couldn’t have been prouder of his team’s performance, commending their tenacity and teamwork.
Despite being a young team, Coach Martinez expressed confidence in their growth and potential. He revealed that the Broncos were on a trajectory of improvement and had their sights set on competing for the district title.
With districts set to commence on September 26th, when the Broncos will hit the road to face the Gallup Bengals, the team’s determination is at an all-time high. Currently with a record of 3-7 for the season, the Kirtland Central Broncos are steadily making their mark as their sites are set on districts.
